Rather than post another photo of Kimi in her hospital bed, I decided to post a photo taken by Taffy French just a couple of days prior to surgery.The resident doctor on Dr. Boaz' team (who assisted during the surgery) said that Kimi will not be going home until Monday or Tuesday, due to how much pain she is still in, poor girl. She is doing wonderful otherwise - no fever, eating/drinking plenty - but cannot hardly stand to be moved at all. He said the incision on her back is about 4 inches long. Considering how little her back is, that's a really BIG incision. I also asked if he knew when we might be able to tell when/if she has increased sensation in her lower legs; and he said it will be quite a while before we will see the results of the surgery.
Kimi had two of the nurses cracking up last night! They use an electronic scanner to confirm her identity from her ankle identity bracelet, and it has colored lights on it. It happened to "scan" her hand and she began giggling and put both hands out to be "scanned". Every time they ran the colored light over her hand, she would let out a real belly laugh - to the point she could hardly breathe! It was really funny! The nurses here have really enjoyed little Kimi! I feel like we are in the best hospital, with the best accommodations, with the best doctors and the best nurses!

ReplyDeleteSorry that she has to stay in longer, but glad she is not lying around pining for home-sounds like she's a great patient! And 4" is a BIG incision, especially in the age of microscopic surgeries, poor girl. I hope everything turns out well.

Love this photo, so bright. Kimi is certainly a brave little girl. Our thoughts are with you Kathy and the family as you go through this, the mental strain of having a child in hospital takes it toll. Kimi will bounce back from this like the little trooper that she is. Fingers crossed it has enabled her move movement.
